e.e. cummings - Favourite poems and quotes

In your eyes there lies
a green Egyptian noise.

To be nobody but yourself
in a world which is
doing its best, day and night, to make
you like everybody else means
to fight the hardest battle which any
human being can fight;
and never stop fighting!

Me up at does
Me up at does
Out of the floor
quietly stare
a poisoned mouse

Still who alive
is asking What
have I done that
you wouldn't have

a total stranger one black day
knocked living the hell out of me -

who found forgiveness hard because
my (as it happened) self he was

- but now that fiend and i are such
immortal friends the other's each

Grey's Anatomy - My Favourite Quotes

  • Responsibility, it really does suck. Unfortunately, once you get past the age of braces and training bras, it doesn't go away. It can't be avoided. Either someone makes us face it or we suffer the consequences. And still adulthood as its perks. I mean the shoes, the sex, the no parents anywhere telling you what to do. That's pretty damn good.

  • Secrets - whatever it is we're trying to hide; we're never ready for that moment when the truth gets naked. That's the problem with secrets - like misery, they love company. They pile up and up until they take over everything, until you don't have room for anything else, until you're so full of secrets you feel like you're going to burst!

  • Pain, it comes in all forms. The small twinge, a bit of soreness, the random pain that we live with everyday. Then there is the kind of pain you just can't ignore, a level of pain so great that it blocks out everything else, makes the rest of your world fade away until all we can think about is how much we hurt; how we manage our pain is up to us. We ride it out, embrace it, ignore it, and for some of us the best way to manage pain is to just push through it. The truth is you can't outrun it, and life always makes more!

  • Maybe we're not supposed to be happy. Maybe gratitude has nothing to do with joy. Maybe being grateful means recognizing what you have for what it is. Appreciating small victories. Admiring the struggle it takes simply to be human. Maybe we're thankful for the familiar things we know. And maybe we're thankful for the things we'll never know. At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing is reason enough to celebrate.

  • Who gets to determine when the old ends and the new begins? It's not on the calender, it's not a birthday. It's not a new year, it's an event - big or small, something that changes us, ideally it gives us hope, a new way of living and looking at the world, letting go of old habits, old memories. What's important is that we never stop believing we can have a new beginning, but it's also important tot remember amid all the crap are a few things really worth holding onto.

  • The thing about plans is they don't take into account the unexpected, so when we're thrown a curve ball, we have to improvise. Of course, some of us are better than others at it. Some of us just have to move on to Plan B and make the best of it. And sometimes what we want is exactly what we need. But sometimes, sometimes what we need is a new plan.

  • We all remember teh bedtime stories of our childhoods; the shoe fits Cinderella, the frog turns into a Prince, Sleeping Beauty is awakened with a kiss. Once upon a time and then they lived happily ever after. Fairytales, the stuff of dreams. The problem is, fairytales don't come true. It's the other stories, the ones that begin with dark and stormy nights and end in the unspeakable. It's the nightmares that always seem to become reality. Reality is much stormier, much murkier, much scarier. Reality. It's so much more interesting than living happily ever after.

  • A couple of hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success. Never leave that till tomorrow, he said, which you can do today. This is the man who discovered electricity. You think more people would listen to what he had to say. I don't know why we put things off, but if I had to guess, I'd have to say it has a lot to do with fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if your'e wrong? What if you're making a mistake you can't undo? The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can't pretend we hadn't been told. We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosphers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time, heard the damn poets urging us to seize the day. Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore. Until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin really meant. That knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure, even the worst, beat the hell out of never trying!

  • Maybe we like the pain. Maybe we're wired that way. Because without it, I don't know; maybe we just wouldn't feel real. What's that saying? Why do I keep hitting myself with a hammer? Because it feels good when I stop.

Victoria Frances

I have a couple of posters by Victoria Frances in my room, and they are absolutely beautiful. Trying to find posters of the following pictures as well... Wish I could draw like that!

A really beautiful song from the upcoming movie Aayirathil Oruvan (starring Karthik Sivakumar, Reema Sen, and Andrea). Can't wait to see the movie!

New Sillunu Oru Kadhal Pics

Tuesday, August 29, 2006

I've realized in the past two days that you only realize the number of people that love and care about you in the face of adversity. This has been said a thousand times, but I have only realized this simple truth now. It really is nice to know that there are countless numbers of people in our lives that we can count on for moral support, and who will go out of their way to help us.

(I've never read any of his works, but I got these from Dean Koontz new novel, "Velocity" -> not his best work)
  • Preserve me from the enemy who has something to gain, and from the friend who has something to lose.
  • Teach us to care and not to care. Teach us to sit still.
  • The only wisdom we can hope to acquire is the wisdom of humility.
  • May the judgement not be too heavy upon us.
  • There is one who remembers the way to your door: Life you may evade, but Death you shall not.
  • In order to possess what you do not possess, you must go by way of dispossession. And what you do not know is the only thing you know.
  • In order to arrive at what you are not, you must go through the way in which you are not.
  • The world turns and the world changes, but one thing does not change: the perpetual struggle of Good and Evil
  • I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope, for hope would be hope for the wrong thing.

Beautiful Glass Sculptures

Every Woman - A Poem

A set of screwdrivers,
A cordless drill, and
A black lace bra...

One friend who always
Makes her laugh
And one who lets her cry

A good piece of furniture
Not previously owned by
Anyone else in her family

Eight matching plates,
Wine glasses with stems
And a recipe for a meal that will
Make her guests feel honored

A feeling of control over
Her destiny

How to fall in love
Without losing herself

How to quit a job
Break up with a lover
And confront a friend
Without ruining the friendship

When to try harder…
When to walk away

That she can’t change
The length of her calves,
The width of her hips, or
The nature of her parents

That her childhood
May not have been perfect but;
It’s over

What she would and wouldn’t
Do for love or more

How to live alone
Even if she doesn’t like it

Whom she can trust
Whom she can’t
And why she shouldn’t
Take it personally

Where to go
Be it to her best friend’s kitchen table
Or a charming inn in the woods
When her soul needs soothing

What she can and can’t accomplish
In a day
A month
And a year

I've Learned

I've learned....

That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes

That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for

That money doesn't buy class

That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular

That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved

That the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?

That to ignore the facts does not change the facts

That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

That love, not time, heals all wounds.

That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

That I wish I could have told those I cared about that I love them one more time before they passed away.

That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

That I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.

That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness, and growth happen while you're climbing it.

That the less time I have to work, the more things I get done.

Character Analysis Through Numerology

Every letter or alphabet from A to Z has a number value from 1 to 9. As such every name has a specific number of 1’s , 2’s, 3’s etc. repeated in his or her name. There is an average, regarding the number of times a specific number should be repeated in a name for a balanced character. If the repetition of a particular number is above average, the character of the person is intensified with the properties of that number. If a particular number is repeated less than the average number of times, then the negative properties of that number are introduced in the character.

Letters Nos. Specification
A - J - S (1) Courage, initiative, leadership,attainment.

B - K - T (2) Peace, partnership, diplomacy, spirituality.

C - L - U (3) Imagination, Expression, joy of living, creativity.

D - M - V (4) Construction, order, service limitation.

E - N - W (5) Sexuality, constructive, freedom, knowledge.

F - O - X (6) Artistic, responsibility, love of fame.

G - P - Y (7) Analysis, understanding science, meditation, love of solitude.

H - Q - Z (8) Judgement, material satisfaction, power, organisation.

I - R (9) Forgiveness, selfishness perfection, philanthropic and divine standards.

The average quantity of repetition of numbers is as follows :

It is called the table of Intensity.
Number : 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

No.of times : 3 1 1 1 3 1 0 1 3

For a balanced character No.1 should appear thrice in a name. More 1’s than three make the person deficient in will, initiative and determination. Numbers 2, 3 and 4 should appear once in a name. No.5 may appear three or four times for a balanced behaviour. No.6 appearing more than once is a strong characteristic. No.7 may be missing in many names since the power analysis and a high sense of perfection is not a common trait. No.8’s appearance even once gives good organising power and ability to meet difficult situations. More 9’s show tolerant nature and generosity to the point of sacrifice.

Method of Calculation

Example 1

4 6 8 1 5 4 1 1

2 1 9 1 4 3 8 1 5 4

7 1 5 4 8 93 + 2 + 7 = 12 = 3. It is destiny Number.

Calculating Intensity

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

7 1 1 5 3 1 1 3 2

Seven 1’s gave him extraordinary initiative, determination and leadership. Five 4’s, were responsible for practical approach. Three 8’s gave him extraordinary power of judgement and philosophy. Three 5’s made him extremely versatile and resourceful.

With the help of above examples, readers can use these mystical formula for character analysis through numerology and can Judge anybody’s temperament.

Scorpio - My Sun Sign

• Symbol: The Scorpion
• Ruling House: Eighth House
• Ruling Planet: Mars/Pluto
• Gemstone: Red Coral
• Element: Water
• Most compatible with: Scorpio, Pisces, Cancer
• Can be good with: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
• A 50-50 chance with: Aquarius, Libra, Gemini
• Doubtful with: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Scorpio Personality
Intense, dominating, and energetic -- your hypnotic stare and your vital force overwhelm those around you. You are passionate and committed to your friends and ruthless with your enemies.
Upon the battlefield of life, you are the one who leads, storming the gates of the fortress.

Scorpios have a keen intellect and admirable qualities of patience and creativity. You are definitely not the gregarious, social kind, always ready to please people. You are genuine and most of the times, above petty gains.

However, you are certainly not above conspiracy and manipulation. Like the scorpion with the sting in its tail, people had better watch out before they rub you the wrong way. Quite a few of you will devote considerable time and energies to develop strategies and plot revenge against your enemies. You are a determined lot. Set to achieve, there are very few challenges that you will not meet.

Actually, all activity must hold a sense of purpose for you. You have an inner strength and a great capacity to endure hardships. There is in fact a streak of masochism in you that enables you to destroy something you have nurtured with great care and love. You can easily change course if it suits you better.

Nevertheless, you are dynamic, fascinating and often mysterious - a combination that draws many towards you.

Scorpio Lover
You are among the best lovers, instinctively knowing what your partner wants. You are intense and passionate and none of your lovers will ever forget you. You will sweep many off with your magnetic charm.

You will rarely distinguish between a passing fancy and true love. For you, it will always be a passionate involvement.

Scorpios can also be very jealous and will go to any lengths to claim what they feel is rightly theirs. You will find your ideal life partner in fellow water signs - Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. It is the water signs that understand you best.

You may have disagreements with your family, as you feel they cannot understand you or the intensity of your passion. Though you are a good parent, you can turn wrathful without warning. This often makes your relationship with your children rather uneasy.

The Scorpio house will be comfortable and classy, but not overtly flamboyant as you do have an eye for detail and will prefer the minimalist style.

Scorpio Professional
You are ideally suited for the sciences and will do extremely well as physicians and surgeons. Architecture and mechanics are also some areas where you will excel. Whether in industry or the military, you will make excellent commanders. Some of you will be interested in fine arts, literature, and journalism -- fields in which you will do quite well.

You need not travel long distances to seek fortune and success. In fact, travelling sometimes has quite the opposite effect on you. You will have a good head for business and will be able to plan your investments shrewdly. You normally look towards making big money, but must have patience, lest you adopt less than honourable means to reach your goals

Scorpio Traveller
You love to holiday in those exotic places that normally others don't go to. Visiting Pyramids in Egypt to the Great Wall of China would always appeal to you. You can withstand any climatic conditions. Package and guided tours are not your idea of holiday. You like to be different in the places you visit and your approach to holidaying.

Scorpio Teens
A Scorpio girl is secretive, mysterious and enigmatic. She is a very focussed person, and once she makes up her mind, there is no stopping her. She is very passionate, and occasionally quite manipulative.

As she is given to frequent mood swings, she can be a handful at times. She is a very sensitive person who relies on her intuition to explore the world around her. She enjoys sports, which satisfies her competitive urge.

Stubborn and strong-willed, she doesn't believe in half-measures. She is erratic and unpredictable, yet on some days she can be amiable company and on others she jealously guards her privacy.

This also applies to her appearance, as at times she won't step out of the house without being well dressed and at other times, she won't bother to comb her hair. School life is unpredictable, and even if she is not a model student, she can achieve her goals by the dint of sheer determination and perseverance.

He is a mysterious and secretive person who never reveals what he is thinking. He possesses an almost mystical and magnetic quality but can also be quite ruthless and dangerous. He usually has a penetrative insight and needs to know people to the core. He enjoys sports, but mostly for the competition it offers.

Being a water sign, he is unpredictable and occasionally undergoes mood swings. He is a very passionate and intense person who cannot tolerate things not going his way. He enjoys challenging hobbies.

He usually has his own agenda and expectations from life and he goes about fulfilling them with a single-minded passion. He is confident and resourceful, with people flocking to him, but mind you, the sting of a Scorpio can be really dangerous

Scorpio Kids
The Scorpio child is penetrating and passionate, and quite mysterious -- reasons that often lead to disagreements with other kids. What might appear to be an unsophisticated probing nature is nothing but the crass honesty of this child. It is very difficult to dissuade the Scorpio kid who has already decided on something. These ventures are often ingenious, yielding interesting results. Don't be surprised if you find a streak of jealousy in this kid.

Scorpio Well Being
Scorpios are perhaps the most mysterious and difficult to understand of all the signs of the zodiac. They often seem to have a love-hate relationship with food. Some of you could be overweight while others among you could be anorexic.

The Scorpio tendency to brood and keep worries and troubles inside could result in digestive problems. As a cure, some of you will over eat, while others won't eat at all. Many Scorpios also suffer from insomnia and sleep-related disorders. Try not to brood over the day's problems.

Swimming is a good form of exercise as well as relaxation for you. You have an attractive, tidy appearance and a fine skin texture. You tend to put on weight, as you grow older.

You are prone to catching infections faster than most others and often suffer from fevers. The throat, pelvis, groin and bladder are particularly vulnerable in the case of Scorpio's. Take extra precaution against contagious diseases.

Scorpio Luck
Black, blood red, burgundy, wine, and maroon are good colours for the scorpion.

Bloodstone is your lucky stone, whereas nine and other numbers that add up to it are lucky numbers.

Tuesday and Thursday are good days.

Mars and Pluto rule you and your element is water.

Pack of Biscuits - Think Twice B4 Judging Others

One night there was a woman at the airport who had to wait for several hours before catching her next flight. While she waited she bought a book and a pack of biscuits to spend the time. She looked for a place to sit and waited.

She was deep into her book, when suddenly she realized that there was a young man sitting next to her who was stretching his hand, with no concern whatsoever, and grabbing the pack of cookies lying between them. He started to eat them one by one.

Not wanting to make a fuss about it she decided to ignore him. The woman, slightly bothered, ate the cookies and watched the clock, while the young and shameless thief of biscuits was also finishing them.

The woman started to get really angry at this point and thought "If I wasn't such a good and educated person, I would have given this daring man a black eye by now." Every time she ate a biscuit, he had one too. The dialogue between their eyes continued and when only one biscuit was left, she wondered what he was going to do.

Softly and with a nervous smile, the young man grabbed the last biscuit and broke it in two. He offered one half to the woman while he ate the other half. Briskly she took the biscuit and thought, "What an insolent man! How uneducated! He didn't even thank me!"She had never met anybody so fresh and sighed relieved to hear her flight announced.

She grabbed her bags and went towards the boarding gate refusing to look back to where that insolent thief was seated. After boarding the plane and nicely seated, she looked for her book which was nearly finished by now. While looking into her bag she was totally surprised to find her pack of biscuits nearly intact.

If my biscuits are here, she thought feeling terribly, those others were his and he tried to share them with me. Too late to apologize to the young man, she realized with pain, that it was her who had been insolent, uneducated and a thief, and not him.

How many times in our lives, had we known with certainty that something happened in a certain way, only to discover later that it wasn't true? How many times has our lack of trust within us made us judge other people unfairly with our conceited ideas, often far away from reality. That is why we have to think twice before we judge others.

Let's always give others the benefit of the doubt before we think badly of them.

It's a really interesting topic, but I don't know much about it.. I did a short quiz on and found that I have a Kapha characteristic.

  • General Characteristics
Physical: Kapha people have a large build. This is because their metabolism is slow. While their digestive strength is good, their constitutions are not inclined to engage in physical activity. Hence, they gain wait and do not loose it easily. They have thick skin and their bodies and tend to have a muscular build. Their skin is oily and smooth. Eyes are large, dark, with thick, long lashes and brows. Kapha people have deep, prolonged sleep. Their speech is regular, sometimes slow and paced.

Psychological: Kapha people tend to be laid back and calm, tolerant and forgiving. They like to see harmony and are good consensus builders. They tend to be reserved and introspective, While they may be slow to comprehend, their long term memory is excellent

  • When out of balance, what happens:

Physical: They tend to have diseases connected to the water principle such as flu, sinus congestion, and other diseases involving mucous. Sluggishness, excess weight, diabetes, water retention.

Emotional: Kaphas tend to become withdrawn, experience greed, envy, attachment and possessiveness. Depression is also possible.

Lifestyle suggestions:
.1. It is essential to vary your routine. For example, take a different road to work once a week. The calm, harmonious nature can get a Kapha in a rut
.2. Even a small amount of physical activity is essential. Walking or hiking, bicycling, are great choices
.3. Limit sweet, oily, salty foods to just a few times a week
.4. Prefer lighter foods
.5. Take Ashwagandha and Chyawanprash.

  • When out of balance, what you should do:
Herbs: Take Ashwagandha to improve energy levels. Gymnema to help reduce sugar cravings. Try a liver cleanse with Phyllanthus. The liver has many roles, one of which is fat metabolism. After cleansing with Phyllanthus, use Picrorrhiza to rejuvenate the liver.

Foods: The nature of Kapha force within us is moist and heavy, Exaggeration of heavy, moist foods such as dairy, eggs, wheat, rice, leads to imbalance. Switch to light or dry foods such as; salads, cooked vegetables, poultry.

Massage: A deep tissue massage will help move retained fluids. Use Warming Massage Oil. Or try aromatherapy with spicy, stimulating essential oils.

Exercise: Hiking is an excellent start to a Kapha's exercise regimen along with aerobic activity, Soccer, Tennis, rowing, cycling, volleyball.

Just started watching Metropia again (I know its reruns, too bad the show got cancelled). I love the show since it's based in Downtown Toronto. And I'm totally in love with Raj and Marissa! (Wish I had a gay friend... The perfect male!) Hehehe.

What pisses me off though is when Raj's mother speaks with that stupid fake Indian accent... Sounds pathetic!

Damn, I wanna found out who the rapist is. It seems too obvious that its that Craig (Greg?) guy.... Hmm....

For those of you in Canada, the show can be seen on OMNI TV, at 11PM Monday to Fridays.

  • Courage is not the absence of fear. It is going forward with the face of fear.
  • "Self-respect cannot be hunted. It cannot be purchased. It is never for sale. It cannot be fabricated out of public relations. It comes to us when we are alone, in quiet moments, in quiet places, when we suddenly realize that, knowing the good, we have done it; knowing the beautiful, we have served it; knowing the truth, we have spoken it."
  • "Women are not inherently passive or peaceful. We’re not inherently anything but human."
  • "The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that's the essence of inhumanity."
  • "We will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
  • "There is no such thing as being non-political. Just by making a decision to stay out of politics you are making the decision to allow others to shape politics and exert power over you. And if you are alienated from the current political system, then just by staying out of it you do nothing to change it, you simply entrench it."
  • "It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead. The difference manifests itself in the care taken by the servant--first to make sure that other people's highest priority needs are being served."
  • "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive."
  • "Laughter is good for thinking because when people laugh, it is easier for them to admit new ideas to their minds."
  • “It is what we make of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another.”
  • The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated. Psychologists tell us that money is a satisfier, not a motivator... Recognition is. That’s why we do what we do... Recognition is critical to self-esteem. Without it, we feel undervalued, even insignificant. Money is nice, sure. But once you establish a basis of monetary rewards, without the accompanying verbal and social affirmation, the employee will quickly become disgruntled and ask for more. Eventually, more will never be enough.
  • "It is the province of knowledge to speak, and it is the privilege of wisdom to listen."
  • "All men should strive to learn before they die, what they are running from, and to, and why."
  • "But the artist persists because he has the will to create, and this is the magic power which can transform and transfigure and transpose and which will ultimately be transmitted to others."
  • "I urge you to: Trudge not through life leaving ugly gashes, Tiptoe not through life leaving half-formed impressions, But tread gently, lovingly and purposefully Leaving graceful heart-prints."
  • "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
  • "Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength."
  • Friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

ANYWAY - By Mother Teresa

"People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centred : Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives: Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies: Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you. Be honest and frank anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous: Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow: Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough: Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God: It was never between you and them anyway."

Be careful of your thoughts,

For your thoughts become your words;

Be careful of your words,

For your words become your deeds;

Be careful of your deeds,

For your deeds become your habits;

Be careful of your habits,

For your habits become your character;

Be careful of your character,

For your character becomes your destiny.

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will.

You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time.

You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken.

You'll fight with your best friend.

You'll blame a new love for things an old one did.

You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love.

So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.
